My Dancing Journey

My name is Aleedra, and my passion is to share Middle Eastern Dance with other women who I hope will be as inspired by it as I have been. My Dancing Journey began when I was 14 years old. I have come along way on this path from the shy troupe dancer, to soloist, and now to instructor and leader of Sister’s Diama, a Student Troupe from Lakewood WA. I teach drumming, dancing and do Mehndi Art up down and down the West Coast and beyond.

The best thing about Middle Eastern dance to me is that it is a way to honor our past traditions as women and dancers. It is a joyous reflection of our modern selves in how we interpret and fuse our own cultures, identities, and spirits into creating a unique form of dancing that is individual for every dancer.

Dancing is the strongest form of self because it is the combination of Mind, Body and Soul. Our souls interpret the music; the music speaks to the mind and is then voiced through the movements of our body. It is one of the most beautiful combinations I have ever seen; it is defined, controlled and yet totally freeing.

We as dancers have had hardships, trials, and pains but we also have joys, beauty and laughter. We all know that we can appreciate the former more having learned the latter.

May our dancing always keep us young, light and full of love.

Good luck to you on your own journey, be it in life or dance.

Bright Blessings,

Aleedra
